The three farmer’s son

Once upon a time, there lived a sick poor farmer aid his three sons: Bill, Thomas, and john. Being on the point of death, the father bequeathed his things to them. Bill inherited his cow, Thomas got his plow, and john received his plant’s seeds. Soon afterward, their father died. Bill and Thomas decided to go out from their small hut and lived their life alone. When their little brother asked them to lend him their plow and cow, they refused to help and mocked him. Then they sold their cow and plow and spent the money without thinking of the future. John then couldn’t help but worked hard by himself to grow the seeds without any help from his brothers.

Years passed, john had gathered the sweet fruits of his sweats and hard works in the past and thus became a rich farmer. One day when he was buying some fruits in the market, somebody stole his wallet. As he ran to get his wallet back, the thief hit a beggar and fell down. John then realized that the thief and the beggar were his own brothers. Bill and Thomas then begged for their little brother forgiveness of being so arrogant and selfish. After listening to his brothers’ stories, john invited his brothers to live together with him. The three then worked together and became great and rich farmers.

First of all, let us praise to the Almighty Allah SWT, because of His Blessing we are able to gather here, to attend a farewell ceremony for the students of SMAN 1 Tanjung, XII grade in academic year 2013–2014. Secondly, may shalawat and salam be upon the Prophet Muhammad SAW who has guided us from the darkness into the brightness.

My friends, in this good opportunity, I stand here to represent all the students of SMAN 1 Tanjung Grade XII to give a valedictory speech.

On the behalf of all students XI grade.

There are so many things that I want to say here to express how thankful we are. I can't find a word to express this tears of joy of remembering all memories that we have been through during this past three years. All we want to say is we are proud to belong here, to study here and to meet all great teachers that we have ever met.

We would like to say thank you very much for all the teachers of SMAN 1 Tanjung who have taught, educated, and guided us so that we can pass the national exam (UN) successfully. Thank you very much for your dedication. We know that your advice, guidance, and motivations have made us better not only in thinking but also in attitudes. My teacher, we realize that we cannot give you any reward. It seems that there are not single reward that can be representative our thankfulness for your merit. We can only give you gratitude and pray. May God repay your kindness. May God always bless you all.

We would also like to apologize to all of the teachers, administration staffs and all the elements of SMAN 1 Tanjung. Please, forgive our mistakes, forgive all the bad things that we have done, forgive all stupid things that make you angry and hopefully we can make our attitudes better than before.

We know, this is the top point of all three years journey together here. There are a lot of laugh, cries, smile, beautiful things that we have experienced. I hope, we will always remember those days forever. And make them as beautiful memories in our life.

They are the models for an ideal leader, especially for Muslims. How can we learn from them? What can we learn from them?  There are many things we can learn from them to be a good leader.

Ladies and gentlemen,

From the stories of their leadership, we can learn at least three things to be a good leader. First, to be a good leader we should be fair and we shouldn’t discriminate one group from another. The most popular story about this is when our prophet Muhammad SAW help the Arabian people from many tribes to put back the hajar aswad to its proper place on the Kaaba wall.

Second, if we want to be a good leader, we should be responsible to our people. Umar bin Khattab R.A. once carried a sack of wheat himself to be given to a mother because he had nothing to eat. This proved that he was a very responsible leader.

Third, we should have a good morality. When Umar bin Abdul Aziz knew that he was chosen to be the khalifah, he felt sorry for himself instead of happy. He lived in a very modest way and didn’t use the country’s facility for his personal use.

Ladies and gentlemen,

I believe there are a lot more things to learn from the stories. However, if we can do the three ways I said before, I’m sure that we will be a good leader.

In conclusion, we can learn many things from the stories of our previous leader models. The best model of all is our great prophet Muhammad SAW. So, from today let us read more stories about Rasulullah and his companions to learn about their leadership.

    One day the woman was standing by the window and looking down into the garden, when she saw a bed which was planted with the most tasty rapunzel.  It looked so fresh and green that she longed for it and had the greatest desire to eat some.  This desire increased every day.  The woman knew that she could not get any of it and grew more pale and miserable each day.
    Her husband was worried about her and asked "What is wrong my dear?"
    "Ah," she replied, "if I can't eat some of the rapunzel from the garden behind our house I think I shall die."
    The man, who loved her, thought, "Sooner than let my lovely wife die, I will bring her some of the rapunzel myself, no matter what the cost."
    In the twilight of the evening, he climbed over the wall into the garden of the witch, hastily grabbed a handful of rapunzel and took it to his wife.  She at once made herself a salad and ate it happily.  She, however, liked it so much -- so very much, that the next day she longed for it three times as much as before.  If he was to have any rest, her husband must once more descend into the garden.  In the gloom of evening, therefore, he set out again; but when he had climbed over the wall he was terribly afraid, for he saw the witch standing before him.
    "How dare you," she said with angry look, "sneak into my garden and steal my rapunzel like a thief?  You shall suffer for this!"
    "Ah," the frightened husband answered, "please have mercy, I had to have the rapunzel.  My wife saw it from the window and felt such a longing for it that she would have died if she had not got some to eat."
    Then the witch allowed her anger to be softened, and said to him, "If this is true, I will allow you to take as much as you like, only I make one condition.  You must give me the baby daughter your wife will bring into the world; she shall be well treated, and I will care for it like a mother."  The man in his fear consented and when the baby was born the witch appeared at once, gave the child the name of Rapunzel and took the baby away with her.
    Rapunzel grew into the most beautiful child beneath the sun.  When she was twelve years old, the witch shut her into a tower, which lay in a forest.  The tower had no stairs or doors, but only a little window at the very top. When the witch wanted to go in, she stood beneath the window and cried,
    "Rapunzel,Rapunzel,                                                                     
    Let down your hair."
    Rapunzel had magnificent long hair, fine as spun gold, and when she heard the voice of the witch she wound her braids round one of the hooks of the window, and then the hair fell down the side of the tower and the witch climbed up by it.
    After a year or two, it came to pass that the Prince rode through the forest and went by the tower.  He heard a song which was so lovely that he stood still and listened.  This was Rapunzel who in her loneliness passed her time singing.  The Prince wanted to climb up to her, and looked for the door of the tower, but none was to be found.  He rode home, but the singing had so deeply touched his heart, that every day he went out into the forest and listened to it.
    Once when he was standing behind a tree listening to Rapunzel's song, he saw the witch come and heard how she cried,
    "Rapunzel,Rapunzel,
    Let down your hair."
    Then Rapunzel let down the braids of her hair, and the witch climbed up to her.
    "If that is the ladder by which one mounts, I will for once try my fortune," thought the Prince and the next day when it began to grow dark, he went to the tower and cried,
    "Rapunzel,Rapunzel,
    Let down your hair."
    Immediately the hair fell down and the Prince climbed up.
    At first Rapunzel was terribly frightened when a man such as her eyes had never seen, came to her; but the Prince began to talk to her quite like a friend and told her that his heart had been so stirred by her singing that it had let him have no rest.  Then Rapunzel lost her fear, and when he asked her if she would take him for her husband -- and she saw that he was kind and handsome, she said yes, and laid her hand in his.
    She said, "I will willingly go away with you, but I do not know how to get down.  Bring a bit of silk with you every time you come and I will weave a ladder with it.  When that is ready I will climb down and we shall escape together."  They agreed that until that time he should come to her every evening, for the old woman came by day.
    The witch knew nothing of this, until once Rapunzel said in her distraction, "Oh my, you are so much heavier when you climb than the young Prince."
    "Ah! you wicked child," cried the witch "What do I hear thee say! I thought I had separated you from all the world but you have deceived me."
    In her anger she clutched Rapunzel's beautiful hair, seized a pair of scissors -- and snip, snap -- cut it all off.  Rapunzel's lovely braids lay on the ground but the witch was not through.  She was so angry that she took poor Rapunzel into a desert where she had to live in great grief and misery.
    The witch rushed back to the tower and fastened the braids of hair which she had cut off, to the hook of the window, and when the Prince came and cried,
    "Rapunzel,Rapunzel,
    Let down your hair,"
    she let the hair down. The Prince climbed to the window, but he did not find his dearest Rapunzel above, but the witch, who gazed at him with a wicked and venomous look.
    "Aha!" she cried mockingly, "You've come for Rapunzel but the beautiful bird sits no longer singing in the nest; the cat has got it and will scratch out your eyes as well.  Rapunzel is banished and you will never see her again!"
    The Prince was beside himself and in his despair he fell down from the tower.  He escaped with his life, but the thorns into which he fell pierced his eyes.  Then he wandered quite blind about the forest, ate nothing but roots and berries and did nothing but weep over the loss of his dearest Rapunzel.
    In this way, the Prince roamed in misery for some months and at length came to the desert where the witch had banished Rapunzel.  He heard a voice singing and it seemed so familiar to him that he went towards it.  When he approached, Rapunzel knew him and fell into his arms and wept.
    Two of her tears fell on his eyes and the Prince could see again.  He led her to his kingdom where he was joyfully received, and they lived for a long time afterwards, happy and contented

Jika mengacu pada keterangan di buku-buku sekolah (baca : Buku Bahasa Inggris SMP / SMA) recount text adalah a text that telling the reader about one story, action or activity. Its goal is to entertaining or informing the reader. (sebuah teks yang menceritakan sebuah cerita, aksi ataupun aktifitas. Tujuan recount text adalah untuk menghibur atau menginformasikan pembaca.)

Generic Structure dari Recount Text

Generic structure (susunan umum) recount text ini terdiri dari:

Orientation tells who was involved, what happened, where the events took place, and when it happened. ("Orientation" menceritakan siapa saja yang terlibat dalam cerita, apa yang terjadi, di mana tempat peristiwa terjadi, dan kapan terjadi peristiwanya)

Events tell what happened and in what sequence. ("Event" menceritakan apa yang terjadi (lagi) dan menceritakan urutan ceritanya)

Reorientation consists of optional-closure of events/ending. ("Reorientation" berisi penutup cerita / akhir cerita)

My Adolescence

I had my adolescence when I was thirteen.

It started with acne that showed up on my face. It was very annoying. It lowered my self-esteem and I was embarrassed to come out of my house and play with friends.

Fortunately, my Mum gave me a good medicine. In three weeks, the acnes started to vanish although those showed some black spots in my face.

That was my bad experience with adolescence, though there were still lots of good experience too.

My Holiday in Bali

When I was 2nd grade of senior high school, my friends and I went to Bali. We were there for three days. I had many impressive experiences during the vacation.

First day, we visited Sanur Beach in the morning. We saw the beautiful sunrise together. It was a great scenery. Then, we checked in to the hotel. After prepared our selves, we went to Tanah Lot. We met so many other tourists there. They were not only domestic but also foreign tourists.

Second day, we enjoyed the day on Tanjung Benoa beach. We played so many water sports such as banana boat, jetsky, speedboat etc. We also went to Penyu island to see many unique animals. They were turtles, snakes, and sea birds. We were very happy. In the afternoon, we went to Kuta Beach to see the amazing sunset and enjoyed the beautiful wave.

The last day, we spent our time in Sangeh. We could enjoy the green and shady forest. There were so many monkies. They were so tame but sometimes they could be naughty. We could make a close interaction with them. After that, we went to Sukowati market for shopping. That was my lovely time. I bought some Bali T-Shirt and souvenirs.

In the evening, we had to check out from the hotel. We went back home bringing so many amazing memories of Bali.

A Beautiful Day at Jogja

Last week, my friends and I went to Jogja. We visited many places.

First, we visited Parangtritis beach. The sun shone brightly and the scenery was very beautiful there. We felt the wind blew across to us. We also saw a lot of people in that beach. There werw many birds flew in the sky. Also, there were many sellers who sold many kinds of souvenirs. Second, we visited Gembira Loka Zoo. We saw many kinds of animals there such as monkeys, tigers, crocodiles, snakes, etc. We looked around in that Zoo, and also took pictures of those animals. Then, we felt hungry, so we went to a restaurant. As soon as we finished our lunc, we decided to go home.

For me, that was a beautiful day. we really enjoyed it, and I hope I could visit Jogja again.

My First Experience to Ride Motorcycle

One day, when I was ten years old, my father bought an old motorcycle. That was " Honda 75". I think it was small light object and easy to ride it. I persuaded my father to teach me to ride " Honda 75 ". Firstly, my father refused my request and promised that he would teach me two or three years later, but I still whimpered. Finally, my father surrendered and promised to teach me.

He began to teach me riding the motorcycle around a field in my village. My father was very patient to give me some directions. I was very happy when I realized my ability to ride a motorcycle. " Yes, I can ".

One day later, when I was alone at home, I intended to try my riding ability. So, myself tried bravely. All ran fluently in the beginning, but when I was going back to my home and I must passed through a narrow slippery street, I got nervous. I lost my control and I fell to the ditch.

After that, I told my father about the last accident. I imagined my father would be angry and never let me ride again. But the reality is exactly on the contrary, my father was very proud of me. He just gave me some advices and since that accident, I got my father's permission to ride motorcycle.

It was takbiran night. It was also my birthday, and nothing happened. Or I had thought nothing would happen, but I was wrong.

That night, I was watching television with my family when I heard someone lit fireworks in my front yard. I peeped trough my window glass but could see nothing. It was very dark outside. Then I thought it had to be my cousins who lit the fireworks. Then I plopped down on my sofa again and tried to concentrate on the television since my mind raced with disappointment that no one gave something special on my birthday. I shrugged, it was almost the end of the day and I became pessimist. Five minutes later my mobile beeped. It was a text from my friend asking me to come out. Wondering what was going on, I grabbed my jacket and hurried to the front door. I was surprised to see her bring a bag full of firework and fire drills. Next I was surprised to see my other friend come out from the darkness. She brought a beautiful birthday cake on her hands. Oh my God! I shrieked. Then they gave the cake to me who was too stunned to say anything. I realized I was blushing furiously because my whole family was watching. Not to mention my neighbors too!

A plain day, or I thought it was before, turned out to be one of the greatest moment in my life. I didn’t even know how to describe what I felt. Happy was the simplest word.

Mengenal Recount Text dalam bahasa inggris - Mungkin banyak teman-teman yang masih bingung apa sih perbedaan  antara Recount Text dengan Narrative Text. Memang keduanya merupakan jenis teks Narration (lihat: Jenis Teks Bahasa Inggris) yang merupakan jenis teks yang menceritakan cerita masa lalu. A. Pengertian Recount Text

Recount Text adalah salah satu dari jenis teks bahasa Inggris yang menceritakan kembali kejadian-kejadian atau pengalaman-pengalaman di masa lampau. Tujuan dari Recount Text adalah untuk memberikan informasi atau untuk menghibur pembaca. Di dalam Recount Text tidak terdapat komplikasi (Complication) seperti halnya di Narrative Text.

B. Tujuan Komunikatif Teks Recount 

Tujuan komunikatif Recount Text seperti penjelasan di atas adalah untuk melaporkan peristiwa, kejadian atau kegiatan dengan tujuan memberitakan atau menghibur tentunya tanpa ada konflik di dalam cerita tersebut.

C. Generic structure Teks Recount

1. Orientation

Orientation atau pengenalan yaitu memberikan informasi tentang siapa, di mana, dan kapan peristiwa atau kegiatan itu terjadi di masa lampau.

2. Events

Events merupakan rekaman peristiwa yang terjadi, yang biasanya disampaikan dalam urutan kronologis, seperti "In the first day, I ... . And in the next day ... . And In the last day ..." . Di bagian Events ini juga biasanya terdapat komentar pribadi tentang peristiwa atau kejadian yang diceritakan.

3. Reorientation

Pada bagian Reorientation, terdapat pengulangan pengenalan yang ada di Orientation, pengulangan yang merangkum rentetan peristiwa, kejadian atau kegiatan yang diceritakan.

D. Ciri Kebahasaan Recount Text

Terdapat beberapa ciri-ciri kebahasaan yang mungkin akan teman-teman temukan ketika membaca sebuah Recount Text. Ciri-ciri kebahasaan dari Recount Text tersebut adalah:

Menggunakan Past Tense. Misalkan we went to zoo, I was happy, etc.

Menggunakan Conjunction dan Time Connectives untuk mengurutkan peristiwa atau kejadian. Misalnya and, but, the, aftar that, etc.

Menggunakan Adverbs dan Adverbial Phrase untuk mengungkapkan tempat, waktu dan cara. Misalkan yesterday, at my house, slowly, etc.

Menggunakan Action Verbs. Misalkan went, slept, run, brought, etc.

Our trip to the Blue Mountain

Orientation

On Friday we went to the Blue Mountains. We stayed at David and Della’s house. It has a big garden with lots of colourful flowers and a tennis court.

(Pada hari jumat kami pergi ke Blue Mountains. Kami menginap di rumah David dan Della. Rumah tersebut mempunyai sebuah taman yang besar dengan banyak bunga warna warni dan sebuah lapangan tenis.)

Events

On Saturday we saw the Three Sisters and went on the scenic railway. It was scary. Then, Mummy and I went shopping with Della. We went to some antique shops and I tried on some old hats. On Sunday we went on the Scenic Skyway and it rocked. We saw cockatoos having a shower.

(Pada hari sabtu kami melihat Three Sister dan pergi ke pemandangan jalan kereta api yang indah. Sangat menakutkan. Kemudian ibu dan saya pergi berbelanja dengan Della. Kita pergi ke toko-toko antik dan mencoba mendapatkan beberapa topi tua. Pada hari minggu kami pergi ke pemandangan Skyway dan berbatu. Kami melihat burung kakatua sedang mandi.)

In the afternoon we went home. That was very pleasent moment with my family that I ever got.

The Fox and the Monkey

A Monkey once danced in an assembly of the Beasts, and so pleased them all by his performance that they elected him their King. A Fox, envying him the honor, discovered a piece of meat lying in a trap, and leading the Monkey to the place where it was, said that she had found a store, but had not used it, she had kept it for him as treasure trove of his kingdom, and counseled him to lay hold of it. The Monkey approached carelessly and was caught in the trap; and on his accusing the Fox of purposely leading him into the snare, she replied, "Oh Monkey, and are you, with such a mind as yours, going to be King over the Beasts?"
